Govt levies 11% import duty on masur, extends duty-free yellow pea imports

MUMBAI – The government has imposed an import duty of 11% on masur, effective Saturday, according to a notification late Friday by the Department of Revenue under the Ministry of Finance.
Import of masur will now attract 5% Basic Customs Duty, 5% Agriculture Infrastructure and Development Cess, and 1% Social Welfare Cess, totalling 11%, according to the notification. Earlier, the government had allowed masur to be imported freely till Mar. 31.
On the other hand, the government has extended duty-free imports of yellow peas till Mar. 31, from Feb. 28 earlier. End
