NEW DELHI – The number of e-way bills generated rose 14.7% on year to 111.64 million in February, according to data from the Goods and Services Tax Network. In January, a record high 118.15 million e-way bills were generated, 23.1% higher than in January 2024.
At 14.7%, the year-on-year growth in e-way bills generation in February was the lowest since August. Sequentially, e-way bills generated declined 5.5% in February.
An e-way bill is a GST document for transport of goods worth more than INR 50,000 within or outside a state. As such, the number of e-way bills generated is taken as a lead indicator of economic activity and domestic trade.
The increase in e-way bills generally suggests GST collections would be robust the following month, as most transactions are reflected in the next month's collections. GST collections rose 9.1% on year to INR 1.84 trillion in February. End
