India gets 522% above normal rain at 11.8 mm in week ended Wed, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received an average rainfall of 11.8 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, 522% above the normal of 1.9 millimetres for the week, the India Meteorological Department said. Of the four homogeneous regions in the country, three recorded above-average rainfall while one recorded no rainfall during the week.
Rainfall in northwest India was a whopping 879% above normal at 34.3 millimetres, with large excess and excess rainfall in most parts except east Uttar Pradesh, the data showed. South peninsular India received 538% above-normal rainfall at 3.2 mm, while east and northeast India also received 43% above-average rains at 4.1 millimetres for the week, according to the data.
Central India did not get any rainfall, against the normal of 0.7 millimetres, the data showed.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, 13 regions received 'large excess' rainfall during the week, and one region received 'excess' rains, the data showed. Two regions received normal rainfall, while no subdivision saw deficient rainfall during the week. Four subdivisions received 'large deficient' rainfall, and 16 subdivisions received no rainfall, according to the data.
Since Jan. 1, India has received 20.9 millimetres of rainfall, 47% below the normal of 39.8 millimetres for the period. End
