--RBI appoints Ajit Ratnakar Joshi as new Executive Director 

MUMBAI – The Reserve Bank of India has appointed Ajit Ratnakar Joshi as executive director, the central bank said in a press release on Wednesday. Joshi's appointment took effect on Monday.

Joshi will oversee the Department of Statistics and Information Management, and the Financial Stability Department, the central bank said. O.P. Mall, whose term as RBI executive director ended on Friday, previously headed these departments.

Prior to his appointment, Joshi was principal adviser in the central bank's Department of Statistics and Information Management. Joshi has experience of over three decades in the areas of statistics, information technology, and cyber risk management, the press release said. Joshi has a Ph.D. in monetary economics from Indian Institute of Technology Madras, and was a faculty member at the Institute of Development and Research in Banking Technology, Hyderabad.  End
