IMD sees wet spell with thunderstorms, lightning in northeast India Wed

MUMBAI – Under the influence of a cyclonic ciculation over northeast Assam, scattered light or moderate rainfall or snowfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, is expected over Arunachal Pradhesh, while isolated light or moderate rainfall is seen over Assam and Meghalaya Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department said.
Strong surface winds with speeds of 25-35 km/hour gusting to 40 km/hour are likely to prevail over the plains of northwest India in the next 24 hours, the agency said.
Under the infuence of the same weather system, a wet spell accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds with speeds of 30-40 km/hour is likely over Bihar Saturday, while thunderstorms and lightning over sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are seen Friday and Saturday, the weather agency said.
A fresh western distrubance is likely to bring isolated to scattered light or moderate rainfall or snowfall over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh from Sunday to Tuesday, and over Uttarakhand Tuesday, the weather department said.
The bureau said hot and humid weather is likely to prevail over Kerala and Mahe till Thursday.
In northwest India, no change in maximum temperatures is seen in the next 24 hours, and thereafter the meteorological office has predicted a gradual rise by 4-6 degrees Celsius. No significant change in maxiumum temperatures is likely over central India, except Vidarbha, in the next two days, after which a rise by 3-4 degrees Celsius is seen. In Vidarbha, maximum temperatures could fall by 2-3 degrees Celsius in the next two days, and then rise by 3-5 degrees Celsius, the agency said.
In east India, no change in maximum temperatures is expected in the next three days, and a gradual rise by 2 degrees Celsius is seen therefter. In northeast India, the weather bureau sees a rise in maximum temperatures by 2-3 degrees Celsius in the next 2-3 days, and no signifcant change thereafter. The weather department does not see any change in maximum temperatures over Maharashtra, Telangana, and north interior Karnataka during the next two days, after which they could rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius.
No significant change in maximum temperatures is likely in Gujarat in the next 24 hours, and gradual rise by 3-5 degrees Celsius thereafter. No significant change in maximum temperatures is likely over south India, except Telangana, in the next five days, the department said. End
