Tata Motors' Feb India despatches fall 9% YoY, CV sales fall for 9th month

MUMBAI – Despatches of automobile units by Tata Motors Ltd. fell in February owing to contraction in both passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles' wholesale sales, according to an exchange filing Saturday. Tata Motors sold 79,344 units in February, 8% lower on year.
Tata Motors sold 77,232 units to dealers in India in February, 9% lower year-on-year, marking the second consecutive month of contraction. While the company's domestic sales have grown year-on-year five times this financial year, they've managed to grow over 1% only two times, signalling the dire situation for the automobile sector in 2024-25 (Apr-Mar). Exports by Tata Motors in February was 2,112 units, up 34% on year.
The company sold 46,435 passenger vehicles in India, including electric vehicles, in February, 9% lower year-on-year. Exports of its passenger vehicles, however, galloped to 376 units in February from 54 units last year. The company sold 5,343 electric cars in India and abroad in February, 23% lower on year.
COMMERCIAL VEHICLES
In February, despatches of commercial vehicles in India by Tata Motors fell 8% on year to 30,797 units. Year on year, Tata Motors' commercial vehicles wholesale sales have contracted for nine consecutive months. Of the four sub-segments, particular weakness was spotted in small commercial vehicles engaged in cargo and pickup businesses, which constituted nearly 35% of its overall domestic commercial vehicle sales. Despatches of these variants in February tumbled 20% on year to 10,898 units.
Despatches of heavy commercial trucks in February fell 2% to 9,892 units while that of intermediate light commercial vehicles increased 11% on year to 5,652 units. Wholesale sales of passenger carriers by Tata Motors in February declined 7% on year to 4,355 units.
The domestic sales of medium-heavy and intermediate commercial vehicles, including buses and trucks, were 15,940 units in February, down 1.8%. The total sales of these variants, including the international business, was 16,693 units, largely unchanged on year. The international business of Tata Motors' commercial vehicles saw despatches of 1,736 units, 14% higher on year.
For Oct-Dec, the company's consolidated net profit was INR 54.51 billion on revenues of INR 1.136 trillion. Friday, shares of Tata Motors closed at INR 620.65 on the National Stock Exchange, down 4.3%. End
