NEW DELHI – The proportion of Indians performing unpaid house work rose in 2024 from 2019, according to the statistics ministry's latest Time Use Survey. As per the fact-sheet of the survey, released Tuesday, the all-India participation rate in 'unpaid domestic services for household members' rose to 54.1% in 2024 from 53.2% in 2019, when the survey was conducted for the first time.
In terms of time, Indians spent 129 minutes on unpaid house work in 2024--three minutes fewer than in 2019. However, the disparity in time spent by males and females continues to be huge.
