IMD sees heat wave conditions over southwest coastal regions till Thu

MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has forecast heat wave conditions over parts of the Konkan region, Goa, coastal Karnataka, and north Kerala till Thursday. Hot and humid wheather is also predicted over Gujarat till Thursday, and over coastal Karnataka on Friday and Saturday, the weather department said.
A heat wave occurs when the temperatures reach at least 40 degree Celsius or more in plains, 37 degree Celsius or more in coastal regions, and at least 30 degree Celsius or more in hilly regions.
A western disturbance is likely to cause heavy rainfall or snowfall over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand till Friday, while very heavy rainfall or snowfall is seen over parts of the same region till Thursday, the weather agency said. Fairly widespread to widespread light or moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is also expected over parts of the same regions till Friday.
Under the influence of the same weather system, isolated hailstorms are likely over Punjab and Haryana on Thursday, IMD said. Additionally, isolated to scattered light or moderate rainfall is seen over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan till Saturday, the weather bureau said. A wet spell with gusty winds with speeds of 30-40 km per hour is predicted over parts of Punjab and Haryana on Thursday and Friday.
An upper air cyclonic circulation over Nagaland is likely to cause a wet spell or snowfall accompanied by thunderstorm, lightning, and hailstorm is likely over east Arunachal Pradesh, the sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, northeast Assam and Nagaland on Tuesday, IMD said.
Under the influence of an active easterly wave, the weather department sees fairly widespread to widespread light or moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over Andaman and Nicobar islands till Wednesday, and heavy rainfall is likely over parts of the islands on Wednesday, the weather agency said. A wet spell accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning is likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, and Mahe from Thursday to Saturday, while heavy rainfall is also seen over parts of the same region during the given period.
The weather bureau said a fresh western disturbance is likely to affect northwest India from Sunday. Under its influence, scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall or snowfall is predicted over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on Sunday and Monday, IMD said.
A gradual rise in minimum temperatures by 2-3 degree Celsius is seen over northwest India in the next three days, and thereafter a gradual fall by 2-4 degree Celsius is likely, the department said. A gradual rise in minimum temperatures by 2-4 degree Celsius is also likely over central India in the next four-five days. In interior Maharashtra, minimum temperatures are seen rising by 2-4 degree Celsius in the next four-five days, IMD said.
No significant changes in minimum temperatures is seen over east India in the next three days, after which they could gradually rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius. No significant change in minimum temperatures is seen over the rest of the country in the next four-five days.
A gradual rise in maximum temperatures by around 2 degree Celsius is likely over the plains of northwest India in the next 24 hours, and thereafter a fall by 4-6 degree Celsius is seen, the weather agency said. In central India, maximum temperatures could rise by 2-4 degree Celsius in the next four-five days. No significant change in maximum temperatures is likely over east India in the next three days, after which a gradual rise by 2-3 degree Celsius is seen. No significant change in maximum temperatures is seen over the rest of the country in the next four-five days, IMD said. End
