NEW DELHI – Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday said that the aspirations of the middle class have raised hopes for the country's growth. Addressing business leaders at the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure summit in Guwahati, the prime minister said the world's trust in India is gradually increasing. He said the world today trusts India's neo middle class, which is coming out of poverty and moving forward with new aspirations, and believes in the country's support for political stability and policy continuity.
Amidst rising global uncertainty, the prime minister noted that many experts have expressed confidence in India's rapid growth. India is strengthening its local supply chains and signing free trade agreements with different countries, Modi said, adding that India's connectivity with East Asia is getting strengthened and the newly formed India Middle East Europe Economic Corridor is also bringing many new possibilities.
Further, the prime minister acknowledged eastern India's role in the development of the country. Hailing the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government in Assam, Prime Minister Modi said that the state's economy has doubled to INR 6 trillion from INR 3 trillion in the last six years under the BJP government. This is the double effect of the double-engine government, he said.
Underlining that the world is looking for a resilient supply chain, the prime minister said India is working on mission mode for the manufacturing sector. "We are giving a push to low-cost manufacturing under Make in India. Our industries are not only fulfilling our demands but also setting benchmarks globally," Modi said.
He also said that Assam is emerging as a major centre for the semiconductor industry, which will benefit entire North East India.
The prime minister termed 'Advantage Assam' as a great campaign to connect the whole world with the potential and progress of the state. He asserted that Assam's natural resources and its strategic location as gateway to South East Asia made it a preferred destination for investors.
The event was attended by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, apart from other Union ministers. Key business figures who attended the event included Reliance Industries Ltd. Chairman Mukesh Ambani and Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani. End
