IMD sees heavy rainfall, snowfall over northwest India from Tuesday

MUMBAI – An active western disturbance is likely to affect northwest India from Tuesday, with heavy rainfall or snowfall expected over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, the India Meteorological Department said Monday.
The weather bureau expects heavy rainfall or snowfall over parts of Jammu and Kashmir till Friday, over parts of Himachal Pradesh from Wednesday to Friday, and over parts of Uttarakhand on Thursday and Friday. It also sees scattered light to moderate rainfall over parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh from Wednesday to Saturday.
Parts of West Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan are also likely to receive scattered to moderate rainfall during Thursday to Saturday and over East Uttar Pradesh on Friday and Saturday, IMD said. A cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam in the lower tropospheric levels is very likely to cause scattered light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm and lightning over parts of West Bengal and Sikkim on Monday and over parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura till Tuesday.
The weather bureau expects heavy rainfall over parts of Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Tuesday and widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm and lightning till Wednesday. Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall with thunderstorm and lightning is very likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, and Mahe from Thursday to Saturday with heavy rainfall on Friday and Saturday, IMD said.
The weather bureau expects minimum temperatures to rise by 3-5 degrees Celsius over northwest India during the next four days and then gradually fall by 2-3 degree Celsuis. No significant change in minimum temperatures is expected over the rest of India during the next four-five days. End
