PM Modi chairs meeting of NDA chief ministers, discusses upcoming polls

NEW DELHI – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held a meeting with chief ministers of states governed by the National Democratic Alliance and held discussions on the upcoming elections in Bihar, West Bengal and Assam, along with other issues. The meeting took place after the oath-taking ceremony of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and other ministers.

 

The oath-taking ceremony was attended by Union ministers Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, and J.P. Nadda, and chief ministers of several Bharatiya Janata Party and allies ruled states. Andhra Pradesh's N. Chandrababu Naidu, Maharashtra's Devendra Fadnavis and chief ministers of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Goa, and North Eastern states were also present. However, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar did not attend the meeting.

 

According to BJP leaders, the NDA chief ministers lauded Prime Minister Modi for the election victories in Maharashtra and Delhi. The leaders vowed to contest upcoming elections in Bihar, West Bengal and Assam together and form an NDA government in these states.

 

The elections for Bihar Assembly will be held in October-November this year. Bihar is being ruled by the National Democratic Alliance with Nitish Kumar of Janata Dal (United) serving as chief minister of the state. In the 2020 assembly elections, the BJP had won 74 seats while the JD(U) won 43 seats in the 243 members Bihar Assembly. The Rashtriya Janata Dal got highest 75 seats. West Bengal and Assam will go to polls in March-April 2026.  End
