India gets 79% below normal rains at 1.4 mm in week ended Wed, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received an average rainfall of 1.4 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, 79% below the normal of 6.6 millimetres for the week, the India Meteorological Department said. The four homogeneous regions of the country recorded below-normal precipitation during the week.

 

South peninsular India and central India did not get any rainfall against the normal of 2.4 millimetres and 2.3 millimetres, respectively, the data showed. Rainfall in east and northeast India was 3% below normal during the week at 8.3 millimetres. Northwest India received 99% below normal rains at 0.1 millimetres for the week.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, 22 subdivisions did not get any rain and 11 got 'large deficient' rains during the week. One subdivision each received 'large excess', 'excess' and 'deficient' rainfall during the week.

 

Since Jan. 1, India has received 8.9 millimetres of rainfall, 72% below the normal of 32.0 millimetres for the period. End
