IMD sees wet spells, hailstorm over east India due to cyclonic circulation

MUMBAI – A cyclonic circulation over the north Bay of Bengal is likely to cause scattered to fairly widespread light or moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds over the Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha till Sunday, the India Meteorological Department said. Hailstorm activity is also likely over parts of Gangetic West Bengal till Thursday, and over Jharkhand and Odisha till Saturday, the weather department said.
Under the influence of multiple weather systems, scattered to fairly widespread light or moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is seen over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh till Thursday, and isolated light rainfall or snowfall over the same regions is likely from Friday to Sunday, the weather agency said. Thunderstorms and lightning with isolated hailstorm activity are likely over Uttarakhand, while heavy rainfall or snowfall is predicted over parts of Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh on Thursday.
Under the influence of the same weather systems, isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds is seen over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and west Rajasthan till Thursday. Thunderstorms and lightning are likely over east Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh till Thursday, while isolated light rainfall is likely over Vidarbha on Saturday and over Chhattisgarh from Thursday to Saturday, the agency said.
A cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam is likely to cause a wet spell or light snowfall over Arunachal Pradesh till Tuesday, while light rainfall is seen over parts of northeast India over the next seven days, the agency said. Thunderstorm and lightning are predicted over parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya till Sunday, IMD said. Similar weather conditions, accompanied by gusty winds, is seen over parts of northeast India till Thursday.
No significant change in minimum temperatures is likely over central India during the next three days, after which they could gradually fall by 2-3 degrees Celsius in the subsequent two days, the weather department said. No significant change in minimum temperatures is seen over the rest of the country in the next 4-5 days.
A gradual fall in maximum temperatures by 1-2 degrees Celsius is likely over northwest India in the next two days, and thereafter a gradual rise by 2-4 degrees Celsius in the subsequent two days. No significant change in maximum temperatures is seen over the rest of the country in the next 4-5 days, the weather bureau said.
