MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department Monday said maximum temperatures in parts of northwest and central India are likely to be 2-3 degrees Celsius above normal during the next four-five days. However, no significant change in maximum and minimum temperatures is expected over the rest of India.

Meanwhile, the Indian Institute of Wheat and Barley Research under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research has advised farmers to irrigate their wheat crop in case of high temperature. It has advised farmers in south Haryana and north Rajasthan to provide irrigation through sprinkler system from IST 1400 to IST 1430 on the day of high temperature for an hour.

The weather department said a fresh western disturbance is likely to influence northwest India on Wednesday and Thursday. Isolated light rainfall is likely over west Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, east Rjasthan, west Uttar Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh during the week.

Under the influence of a fresh western disturbance, scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall or snowfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning is likely over Jammu, Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on Wednesday and Thursday.

At present, a cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Assam, which is likely to cause heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh on Monday. Scattered to fairly widespread moderate rainfall or snowfall is also likely over Arunachal Pradesh till Sunday.

Dense fog is very likely to continue during early morning hours in isolated pockets of Gangetic West Bengal till Tuesday and sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till Wednesday, the departmen said.  End
