India's natural gas import bill up 17.3% on year during Apr-Jan

NEW DELHI – India's natural gas import bill for Apr-Jan rose 17.3% on year to $12.9 billion because of increasing demand, the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell said in a report. In January, the import bill rose more than 8.3% to $1.3 billion, the data showed. 

 

The country imported 31,347 million standard cubic metres of natural gas during Apr-Jan, 21.2% higher on year. In January, India's gas imports rose 7.6% to 3,047 mscm, the data showed.

 

In January, the country used 6,072 mscm, up 2.8% on year. The cumulative natural gas consumption during Apr-Jan jumped nearly 10.2% on year at 61,282 mscm, the data showed.

 

Meanwhile, domestic natural gas production fell 1% to 30,376 mscm in Apr-Jan, well below the target of 33,020 mscm, the data showed. As a result, import dependency for gas during Apr-Jan rose to 51.2% from 46.5% last year.  End
