India gets 74% below normal rains at 1.5 mm in week ended Wed, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received an average rainfall of 1.5 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, 74% below the normal of 5.6 millimetres for the week, the India Meteorological Department said. Three homogeneous regions of the country recorded below-normal precipitation during the week, while one got above normal rainfall.
South peninsular India and central India received no rainfall, against the normal of 2.2 millimetres each, the data showed. Northwest India received 86% below normal rains at 1.6 millimetres. Rainfall in east and northeast India was 3% above normal during the week at 6.1 millimetres.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, 29 subdivisions received no rains and four subdivision got 'large deficient' rains during the week. One subdivision each received 'large excess', 'excess' and normal rainfall during the week.
Since Jan. 1, India has received 7.6 millimetres of rainfall, 70% below the normal of 25.4 millimetres for the period. End
