NEW DELHI – Exit polls on Wednesday predicted the return of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Delhi after nearly 27 years. Most pollsters predicted a majority for the BJP in the 70-member Delhi assembly. The Aam Aadmi Party, which has been in power in the past decade, may get around 30 seats, according to the exit polls.

Meanwhile, the Congress party is unlikely to make a footprint in Delhi in the third consecutive Assembly elections, the pollsters predicted.

At 60, the Peoples Pulse gave the highest number of seats to the BJP, while Wee Preside gave the party 18–23 seats. Most exit polls predicted a complete majority for the BJP. The majority mark in the Delhi Assembly is 36.

Only one pollster, Wee Preside, has given a full majority to the AAP. It predicted that the AAP may get 46–52 seats. Matrize predicted 32–37 seats for the Arvind Kejriwal-led party. If the exit polls are true, the AAP is set to see its first defeat in the Delhi Assembly since its inception.

The Congress party may have to face another debacle in the national capital. It is set to get 0–3 seats, the exit polls suggested.

The exit polls suggest that the BJP succeeded in its strategy of targeting the AAP on corruption charges. The saffron party aggressively campaigned on the issue of corruption under the Kejriwal-led government and also dented his common-man image with the "Sheesh Mahal" narrative. The saffron party accused Kejriwal of building a resort-like house for himself at the cost of taxpayers' money.

Election to the Delhi Assembly concluded at 1800 IST on Wednesday. According to provisional data released by the Election Commission of India, the national capital recorded nearly 58% voter turnout till 1930 IST.

In the 2020 elections, the AAP won 62 of the 70 seats, while the BJP won eight seats. The saffron party has been out of power in Delhi since 1998.
