India's Apr-Jan coal production rises 5.9% YoY; Jan output up 4.4% on year

MUMBAI – India's coal production rose 5.88% on-year in Apr-Jan to 830.66 million tonnes. In January alone, production was 104.43 million tonnes, rising 4.38% compared to the same month last year, according to a release by the Ministry of Coal.
The contribution from captive, commercial, and other entities rose 31.1% on year in January to 19.68 million tonnes. Total coal production from captive and commercial mines in Apr-Jan was 150.25 million tonnes, up from 112.08 million tonnes a year ago. The coal output this year has surpassed last year's total production of 147.12 million tonnes by Jan. 27, 64 days ahead of schedule, according to the release.
COAL DISPATCHES
Total coal dispatches during January were 92.40 million tonnes, up 6.31% from 86.92 million tonnes in the corresponding period of the previous year. The total coal dispatched up to January rose to 843.75 million tonnes, 5.73% higher than 798.02 million tonnes in the Apr-Jan period of the previous year.
Coal dispatches from captive and other entities in January rose to 17.72 million tonnes, from 13.64 million tonnes in the same period last year. In Apr-Jan, total coal dispatches from these entities increased by 33.75% on year, reaching 154.61 million tonnes, compared to 115.57 million tonnes last year. Coal dispatched during Apr-Jan surpassed last financial year's total dispatches of 142.79 million tonnes by Jan. 11.
