IMD sees widespread moderate rain, snowfall in western Himalayan region Wed

MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has forecast fairly widespread moderate rainfall and snowfall accompanied with thunderstorms and lightning over the western Himalayan region till Wednesday due to the presence of a cyclonic circulation over west Afghanistan and adjoining Iran at lower and middle tropospheric levels.
Under the influence of another western disturbance, scattered rainfall and snowfall is likely over parts of the western Himalayan region over the weekend, the department said.
In terms of temperatures, the weather bureau has forecast a gradual rise in minimum temperatures by 2-3 degrees Celsius over northwest India during the next two days and a gradual fall by 2–3 degrees Celsius during the subsequent three days. Minimum temperatures over west India may not see any significant change during the next 24 hours, but may fall 2–4 degrees Celsius during the subsequent three days, it said. In central India, too, the department sees no significant change in minimum temperatures and a fall by 2–3 degrees Celsius thereafter.
Additionally, dense fog conditions are very likely to prevail in pockets of Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar till Tuesday, over sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura till Wednesday, and over Odisha till Thursday, the weather department said.
