FY26 railway capex seen INR 2.65 tln, unchanged from FY25

MUMBAI/NEW DELHI – The Budget on Saturday projected the capital expenditure of the Indian Railways in 2025-26 (Apr-Mar) at INR 2.65 trillion, unchanged from the revised estimate for the current fiscal year. The Budget for FY25 had also projected the capital outlay of the Indian Railways at INR 2.65 trillion.
Out of the planned capital expenditure for FY26, INR 2.52 trillion will come from budgetary support and INR 100 billion from extra budgetary resources, including public-private partnerships.
Next year, Indian Railways will spend INR 588.95 billion on procuring rolling stock and INR 322.35 billion on new line construction. The national transporter will spend another INR 320.00 billion on doubling tracks.
Indian Railways' gross traffic receipts for FY26 are estimated at INR 3.01 trillion, up from the revised estimate of INR 2.79 trillion for this year. Out of this, freight revenue for the next financial year is pegged at INR 1.88 trillion and passenger receipt is projected at INR 928 billion. End
