NEW DELHI – The government plans to develop 50 tourism sites across the country in partnership with states to drive tourism-led employment growth, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharam said in her speech while presenting the Union Budget for the financial year 2025-26 (Apr-Mar) Saturday. States will provide land for key infrastructure and hotels in these destinations and will be included in the infrastructure harmonised list, she said.

The government will provide MUDRA loans for homestays and work towards improving the ease of travel and connectivity to tourist destinations. The government will also provide performance-linked incentives to states for effective destination management, including amenities and cleanliness, she said.

The government will streamline e-visa facilities and waive visa fees for certain tourist groups, she added. The government will also organise intensive skill development programmes for young people in hospitality management institutes.

To promote medical tourism and "Heal in India", the government will facilitate easier visa norms and build capacity in private partnerships, she said. The government will continue to promote spiritual tourism and give a special focus on destinations related to the life and times of the Buddha, she added.  End
