Eicher Motors' Jan commercial vehicle despatch volumes highest in FY25

MUMBAI – Eicher Motors Ltd. had a very encouraging start to 2025 as the company's commercial vehicle despatches to dealers were the highest in the current financial year ending March. The on-year growth rate of its commercial vehicle wholesale sales was also the fastest since October 2023, as per its exchange filing Saturday.
Overall despatches of vehicles by Eicher Motors' unlisted subsidiary VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd. in January grew over 20% on year to 8,489 units. In the first 10 months of the ongoing financial year, the company sold 69,975 commercial vehicles in India and abroad, registering a growth of 4.6% on year. These despatches include sales of Eicher Motors-branded and Volvo-branded buses and trucks.
The company sold total 8,322 Eicher Motors-branded trucks and buses in January, up over 21% on year. In Apr-Jan, the company sold 67,963 trucks and buses, up 4.8%.
In India, Eicher Motors sold 7,872 trucks and buses to dealers, posting a growth of 21% on-year. In the first 10 months of 2024-25 (Apr-Mar), however, the company's despatches in India grew only 3% to 63,999 units. The company's exports grew 26.8% in January to 450 units, while in Apr-Jan, it grew even faster, at 34.6% on year to 3,964 units.
The wholesale sales of Volvo trucks and buses fell 20% on-year to 167 units in January. In Apr-Jan, it contracted over 1% from the same period in the previous year to 2,012 units.
SEGMENTAL PERFORMANCE
The company's despatches of light-duty trucks and light-medium-duty trucks of between 3.5 and 18.5 tonnage to dealers in January rose 17.9% to 3,787 units. The sales of these units contracted nearly 1% during Apr-Jan to 32,011 units.
Sales of heavy-duty trucks weighing over 18.5 tonnes registered a growth of 21.5% in January, at 2,007 units. In Apr-Jan, their despatches increased nearly 4% on-year to 17,279 units.
Despatches of light-medium-duty buses increased 22% in January to 1,714 units whereas in Apr-Jan, these increased to 13,023 units, up 14.8%.
Heavy-duty buses, a much smaller sub-segment for the commercial vehicle-maker, saw its despatches increase 53% on year to 364 units in January. In Apr-Jan, their despatches grew only 5% to 1,686 units.
For Jul-Sept, Eicher Motors reported a consolidated net profit of INR 11 billion on revenue of INR 42.63 billion. At 1332 IST, shares of Eicher Motors traded 3.9% higher at INR 5,394.35 on the National Stock Exchange. End
