NEW DELHI – In her address to a joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament Friday, marking the beginning of the Union Budget 2025 session, President Droupadi Murmu highlighted cybersecurity as a key challenge in today's rapidly digitalising world. She said that as India becomes more dependent on digital platforms, threats such as cybercrime, digital fraud, and deepfakes present significant risks to national security and economic stability.

Despite these concerns, President Murmu assured the nation that the government is tirelessly working to address and mitigate these threats. "My government is continuously working to ensure competence in cybersecurity. As a result of these efforts, India has achieved Tier-I status in the Global Cybersecurity Index," she said.

Later in her speech, President Murmu highlighted India's growing prominence in the field of artificial intelligence and digital technology. India's adoption of these technologies has secured the country a second-place position in the QS World Future Skills Index 2025, a testament to its readiness for the future of work, she said. To enhance India's leadership in AI, the government has launched the India AI Mission, aimed at making India a global leader in AI research and applications.

The president noted that India's path toward a ‘Viksit Bharat' relies on robust infrastructure that will fuel a digital revolution. Over the past decade, India has seen progress in this journey, with digital governance initiatives like DigiLocker simplifying access to essential documents and reducing bureaucratic hurdles for citizens, she said.

"My government, in the past 10 years, has written new chapters of progress, one of which is the golden milestone of India's digital revolution," the president said.

President Murmu said that as the nation moves forward, India's digital revolution is not just a technological milestone but also a commitment to ensuring that no citizen is left behind in this transformation.  End
