IMD sees heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry till Friday

MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department Thursday said heavy rainfall is likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal till Friday under the influence of an easterly trough. Light to moderate rainfall is accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over Tamil Nadu, Karaikal, Puducherry, Kerala, and Mahe till Sunday.
The weather bureau said a cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam is likely to lead to rainfall or snowfall over Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday. Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is very likely at a few places in Arunachal Pradesh, northeast Assam, and Nagaland till Friday, the agency said. Similar weather conditions are seen over a few parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim at the same time.
The wet spell over the western Himalayan region is likely to continue till Wednesday and that over northwest India from Friday to Wednesday. Two fresh western disturbances are likely to affect northwest India between Saturday and Monday, the weather department said.
It expects a gradual rise of 2-3 degrees Celsius in minimum temperatures in northwest, east, central, and west India during the next three days. However, it added that there would not be any significant changes in temperatures thereafter.
Dense to very dense fog is likely over Uttar Pradesh till Saturday. The bureau issued an orange alert for Uttar Pradesh for dense to very dense fog. It also said dense fog conditions are likely during the night and early morning hours in pockets of West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Assam, and Meghalaya during the week. End
