NEW DELHI – Over 32 states have pre-published draft rules under the four labour codes consolidated in 2020, the labour ministry said on Wednesday. Out of these, 18 states have also implemented the reforms.
All 36 states are expected to complete the publication of harmonised draft rules of the rules in line with the labour codes by Mar. 31, the ministry said in a release after Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya's meeting with state counterparts, and labour secretaries of states and Union Territories. Mandaviya is set to hold a two-day-long national conference with state officials till Thursday.
The government has consolidated 29 central labour laws into four labour codes--Code on Wages, 2019; Industrial Relations Code, 2020; Code on Social Security, 2020; and Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020. "These reforms are aimed at promoting greater ease of doing business, reduction in compliance burden, decriminalisation, promoting women participation in the workforce, and other employment and labour related interventions, leading to a friendlier ecosystem of labour regulations," the labour ministry said in the release.
