NEW DELHI – Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya launched state-specific microsites as part of the e-Shram initiative and introduced the Occupational Shortage Index Wednesday. This marked the conclusion of the first day of the two-day national conference that Mandaviya is hosting with state counterparts and labour secretaries from states and Union Territories.

The e-Shram microsites are digital platforms which can facilitate two-way integration between state portals and the e-Shram portal, the labour ministry said in a release. "This will provide a one-stop solution for seamless access to both Central and state welfare programs for unorganised workers, employment opportunities, skilling programmes, etc." The e-Shram portal records the database of workers in the unorganised sector and provides them with a Universal Account Number.

The second major initiative, the Occupational Shortage Index, seeks to align labour market demand and supply, improving employment outcomes throughout India. "The index is designed to enable more effective decision-making in workforce planning and skill development initiatives, optimising job matching and guiding state governments and employers in creating targeted skill development programs," the labour ministry said.  End
