India gets 95% below normal rain at 0.2 mm in week ended Wed, says IMD

MUMBAI – India received an average rainfall of 0.2 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, 95% below the normal of 4.5 mm for the period, the India Meteorological Department said. All homogeneous regions of the country recorded below-normal precipitation.
Rainfall in east and northeast India was 80% below normal during the week at 0.9 mm. Northwest India received 99% below normal rains at 0.1 mm and the central part of India received no rainfall, against the normal of 1.8 mm, the data showed. The south peninsular India recorded 0.2 mm rainfall, 80% lower than normal rainfall of 1.1 mm for the week.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was 'large excess' in one and 'deficient' in two subdivisions. While 11 subdivisions received 'large deficient' rains, 22 subdivisions received no rainfall during the week.
Since Jan. 1, India has received 4.5 mm rainfall, 72% below the normal of 15.8 mm for the period. End
