MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department said Wednesday that a cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam is likely to cause rainfall over parts of the northeastern region. It said heavy rain or snowfall is likely over Arunachal Pradesh Thursday.
Under the influence of the same weather system, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is very likely at a few places in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya till Friday, the agency said. Similar weather conditions are seen over a few parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim at the same time.
The weather bureau said an easterly wave is likely to cause light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning at a few places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, and Mahe till Saturday. Heavy rainfall is also likely over parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, and Mahe during the week, it said.
The wet spell over the western Himalayan region is likely to continue till Tuesday and that over northwest India from Thursday to Tuesday. Two fresh western disturbances are likely to affect northwest India between Saturday and Tuesday, the weather department said.
The bureau sees a gradual rise in minimum temperatures by 2-3 degrees Celsius over northwest India over the next five days. Over central and east India, it sees a rise in minimum temperatures by 2–4 degrees Celsius over the next three days. However, it does not expect any change in minimum temperatures over the rest of the country.
