MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department said a wet spell is likely over the western Himalayan region till Sunday and over northwest India from Thursday to Monday. A fresh western disturbance is seen as a cyclonic circulation over west Iran between the lower and upper tropospheric levels, the weather department said.

According to the weather bureau, a cyclonic circulation is lying over east Bangladesh at lower tropospheric levels. This may cause hailstorms over parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal Tuesday and Arunachal Pradesh till Thursday.

The weather department issued an orange alert for Uttar Pradesh till Wednesday as dense to very dense fog is likely to prevail during early morning and night. Dense fog conditions are very likely to prevail during early morning and night over Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, West Bengal, Sikkim, and coastal Odisha during the week.

The weather bureau said cold waves are likely over pockets of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana on Tuesday. It said light to moderate rainfall, along with thunderstorms and lightning, is highly likely over a few places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and south interior Karnataka during the week.  End
