Global Dec alumina output up 3.4% on month at 12.85 mln tn, says institute

MUMBAI – Global alumina production rose 3.4% month-on-month to 12.85 million tonnes in December, according to data from the International Aluminium Institute. On an annual basis, alumina output was up 5.3% from 12.20 million tonnes in December last year.
The average daily global alumina production rose slightly to 414,600 tonnes in December from the revised 414,400 tonnes in November, according to the data.
Alumina production in China rose 3% on-month to 7.55 million tonnes in December. The country's output, which accounted for over 58% of global alumina production, was up 9.9% from a year ago, the data showed.
In the Oceania region, alumina output rose to 1.53 million tonnes in December from 1.47 million tonnes in November. In Africa and Asia, excluding China, alumina production rose to 1.23 million tonnes from 1.21 million tonnes in November. In Europe, production rose 4.9% on-month to 641,000 tonnes in December and output in South America rose 6% on-month to 1.06 million tonnes, the data showed.
According to the data, global primary aluminium production rose 3.3% on-month in December to 6.24 million tonnes. At 1908 IST, the most-active February aluminium contract on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India was down 0.9% at INR 250.60 per kg. On the London Metal Exchange, the three-month aluminium contract was down 0.8% at $2,619 per tonne. End
