--Source: Cabinet likely to approve hike in jute MSP by over INR 280/100 kg

NEW DELHI – The Union Cabinet, which met earlier Wednesday, is likely to approve a hike in the minimum support price of raw jute for the 2025-26 (Jul-Jun) season, a source said. The minimum support price of raw jute is likely to be hiked by over INR 280 per 100 kg from the current INR 5,335. 

 

Union Minister Piyush Goyal is scheduled to address the media about the Cabinet decisions at 1400 IST.

 

The hike in minimum support price is in line with the government's decision last year. For the 2024-25 season, the government had approved a 5.6% increase in the minimum support price of raw jute, by INR 285 per 100 kg, to support 4 million farmers and 500,000 organised and unorganised workers in the jute milling industry. 

 

A minimum support price ensures better remunerative returns to jute growers and incentivises quality jute fibre. The Jute Corp. of India will continue as a central government nodal agency undertaking price support operations. E nd
