NEW DELHI – The Bharatiya Janata Party Tuesday released a second manifesto for the Delhi assembly elections, promising a slew of measures ranging from free education to freebies. The second manifesto or "Sankalp Patra-II" promises free education from pre-primary to post-graduation for students from the marginalised sections in government educational institutions, if voted to power.

The manifesto was unveiled by BJP Member of Parliament Anurag Thakur, who said the party will provide one-time financial aid of INR 15,000 to the youth of Delhi who aspire to participate in competitive examinations. The party has also promised to reimburse two-time travel and application fees.

The BJP leader said the party will provide a life insurance of INR 1 million and accidental insurance of INR 500,000 for auto and taxi drivers in Delhi. It would also establish an "Auto and Taxi Driver Welfare Board" in the national capital, along with scholarships for the children of auto and taxi drivers for pursuing higher education.

The party has also promised to set up a Domestic Workers Welfare Board, along with life insurance of INR 1 million and accidental insurance of INR 500,000 for domestic workers.

Highlighting a "zero-tolerance" policy against alleged mis-governance and corruption in the Aam Aadmi Party regime, the BJP said it would constitute a special investigation team to probe allegations of multiple scams during the tenure of the incumbent AAP government.

The saffron party had Friday released its first manifesto announcing several pro-women measures. It promised monthly aid of INR 2,500 to women under Mahila Samridhi Yojana, and INR 21,000 for every pregnant woman along with six nutritional kits and INR 5,000 and INR 6,000 for the first and second child, respectively, under Mukhya Mantri Matritav Sahayta Yojana.

The party also claimed that it would provide liquefied petroleum gas cylinders at INR 500 for poor households and one free cylinder during Holi and Diwali. It has also promised a monthly pension of INR 2,500 for senior citizens.

Assembly election in Delhi will be held in a single phase on Feb. 5 and votes will be counted on Feb. 8. The AAP, which has been in power for the last 10 years, swept the 2020 state polls, winning 62 of the 70 seats, while the rival BJP won only eight seats. The Congress did not win any seat in the 2020 election.  End
