NEW DELHI – The Budget Session of Parliament will begin on Jan. 31 with President Droupadi Murmu's address to a joint sitting of both Houses followed by the tabling of the Economic Survey for the financial year 2024-25 (Apr-Mar) by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the Rajya Sabha secretariat said Friday. Sitharaman will present the Budget for FY26 the following day.

During the first part of the Budget Session, both Houses will debate the motion of thanks to the president's address, and begin discussing the Budget. Parliament will adjourn on Feb. 13 for a recess to enable the standing committees associated with various departments to examine the demands for grants and submit reports relating to their ministries.

The session will resume after the recess on Mar. 10 and conclude on Apr. 4, the secretariat said in a parliamentary bulletin. During the second part of the session, the major focus will be on the demands for grants for ministries apart from the government's legislative agenda.

The Joint Parliamentary Committee on the "one nation, one election" bills is scheduled to submit its report to the Lok Sabha by the first day of the last week of the Budget Session. The Winter Session of Parliament, which ended on Dec. 20, witnessed stormy proceedings amid ruckus and unprecedented showdowns. It ended without conducting much business apart from passing on the last day a motion to constitute a Joint Parliamentary Committee to discuss the bills.  End
