BMW launches first 'Made in India' electric SUV priced INR 4.9 mln

NEW DELHI - As part of its strategic focus on the Indian market, BMW Friday launched the first "Made in India" electric, luxury sports utility vehicle car in the popular "X1" series. With major thrust on domestic production, the new launch was locally produced at BMW Group Plant Chennai, BMW Group India President and Chief Executive Officer Vikram Pawah said, while making the announcement at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025.

 

"With length of 4,616 mm and wheelbase of 2,800 mm, the BMW X1 Long Wheelbase All Electric not just the biggest car in its segment, but also one of the longest 5-seater SUVs offered in India," he said. The car--priced at INR 4.9 million--can be booked at BMW dealerships across India Friday onwards.


Its key specifications include long wheelbase and a performance of a range of up to 531 kilometre. Besides, Pawah also announced a smart e-Routing and charging concierge for convenient electric journey planning.  


He said that with India's rising demand for electric vehicles, this model will open new expansion opportunities for the luxury carmaker in India. "Exuding space, comfort and versatility, it is the perfect premium SUV for rising aspirations of new Bharat," he said. 

 

 

The car comes with a standard two-year warranty for unlimited kilometres. Extended warranty benefits are available from third year of operation to maximum sixth year without any mileage limitation. The warranty can further be extended to 10 years or 200,000 km. The high-voltage battery in 'BMW X1 Long Wheelbase All Electric' is covered by a warranty valid for eight years or up to 160,000 km.


BMW Group India achieved its best-ever annual car deliveries with 11% growth in 2024, delivering 15,721 cars and 8,301 motorcycles, the company said in a release on Jan. 7.  End
