MUMBAI – Under the influence of a western disturbance lying as a cyclonic circulation over northern Pakistan, a wet spell is likely to continue over northwest India on Thursday, the India Meterological Department said. Thereafter, a fresh disturbance from Saturday and another one from Wednesday are expected to lead to more rainfall over the region after Saturday.

Isolated rainfall or snowfall is likely over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on Thursday due to these weather systems, the weather agency said. Thunderstorms are also expected over some parts of these regions on Thursday, it said.

Additionally, isolated rainfall is expected over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, east and west Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh on Thursday. The weather department predicts similar conditions from Saturday to Wednesday over these regions, as well as isolated to scattered rainfall or snowfall over the western Himalayan region from Saturday to Wednesday due to the fresh western disturbances.

Meanwhile, an upper air cyclonic circulation lying over the southeast Arabian Sea off the south Kerala coast is likely to lead to heavy rainfall over the Nicobar Islands on Thursday, and over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, and Mahe on the weekend. Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is also expected over a few parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, and Mahe during the weekend.

The weather bureau said that dense to very dense fog is expected to continue during late nights and early mornings over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, east Rajasthan, and west Rajasthan till Friday.

A gradual fall of 2-3 degrees Celsius in minimum temperatures is expected over northwest India during the next two days, after which they could rise gradually by 2-4 degrees Celsius, the weather bureau said. In Gujarat, a gradual rise of 2-3 degrees Celsius in minimum temperatures is likely in the next three days, after which no significant change is seen.

No significant change in minimum temperatures is likely over Maharashtra, and central and east India during the next five days, the weather department said.  End
