NEW DELHI – The Delhi High Court on Wednesday dismissed a public interest litigation seeking action against Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishi for subletting her official bungalow to party leader Manish Sisodia and his family. The bench of Acting Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru and Justice Tushar Rao Gadela said, "If any rules are violated, the concerned authorities are fully competent to take action as and when required".
Sanjeev Jain, a social activist, had said in his petition that Atishi had extended gainful benefit to Sisodia in order to get a high rank in her political party. Allowing Sisodia's family to reside in her government bungalow was a clear-cut misuse of government property and violation of settled rules and regulations for allotment and on vacating government property, Jain had said.
The bungalow was initially allotted to Sisodia. However, after his arrest in the Delhi liquor policy case, the bungalow was allocated to Atishi in March 2023. Sisodia went behind bars in March 2023, yet his entire family continued to reside in the government bungalow, even after he resigned from his post of Delhi deputy chief minister and education minister, said Jain. "That it is also very surprised that when the above mentioned bungalow has been allotted to Ms. Aathishi Merlena in the Month of March, 2023 and she was living in the area of Jangpura, New Delhi and she never raised any objection of Mr. Manshi Sisodia's family living in the above-mentioned bungalow," Jain added.
