NEW DELHI – Former Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal Wednesday filed his nomination from the New Delhi seat for the upcoming assembly elections. Kejriwal appealed to people to vote for the work done by the AAP government in Delhi.
"I have filed the nomination. I would like to tell the people of Delhi, to please vote for work. On one side, there is a party that works and on the other side, there is a party that abuses... So vote for work, education, health, electricity, water, roads, vote for these things," Kejriwal said after filing the nomination.
Before filing the nominations, Kejriwal offered prayers at the Hanuman temple and Valmiki temple in New Delhi. He held a march from the AAP office to the New Delhi district magistrate's office, where he filed the nomination. He was accompanied by his wife Sunita and AAP leaders.
Kejriwal has been representing the New Delhi seat since 2013. In the 2013 elections, he defeated the then chief minister and senior Congress leader Sheila Dikshit. In the 2025 polls, Kejriwal will face Sheila Dikshit's son Sandeep Dikshit, who is contesting as the Congress candidate from the seat. The Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded former Lok Sabha member Parvesh Singh, son of former chief minister Sahib Singh, against Kejriwal.
The assembly elections in Delhi will be held in a single phase on Feb. 5 and votes will be counted on Feb. 8. The AAP, which has been in power for the last 10 years, swept the 2020 state polls, winning 62 of the 70 seats, while the rival Bharatiya Janata Party could win only eight seats. The Congress failed to win a single seat in 2020 elections. End
