MUMBAI – A western disturbance that has developed into a cyclonic circulation over Pakistan and its neighbourhood, an induced cyclonic circulation over Punjab and the adjoining areas, and another cyclonic circulation lying over southwest Rajasthan and its neighbourhoods is likely to cause a wet spell over northwest India and the adjoining central India till Thursday, the India Meterological Department said.

Under the influence of these weather systems, isolated rainfall or snowfall is likely over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand till Friday, the weather agency said. Additionally, isolated rainfall is expected over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, east and west Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Vidarbha till Thursday. Moreover, thunderstorms are also expected over parts of west Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and west Rajasthan till Friday, the weather department said.

A fresh western disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalayan Region from Saturday, the weather department said. Under its influence, isolated to scattered rainfall or snowfall is expected over the western Himalayan region from Saturday to Tuesday.

The weather agency has also predicted heavy rainfall over the Nicobar Islands on Thursday, and over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, and Mahe on the weekend. Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is also expected over a few parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, and Mahe during the weekend.

The weather bureau said that dense to very dense fog is expected to continue during late nights and early mornings over some parts of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Rajasthan till Friday.

A gradual rise in minimum temperatures by 2-4 degrees Celsius is seen over northwest India during the next five days, IMD said. In central India, a gradual rise in minimum temperatures by 2 degrees Celsius is likely in the next 24 hours, after which no significant change is seen.

No significant change in minimum temperatures is likely over east and west India during the next 5 days, the weather department said.  End
