MUMBAI – Under the influence of a cyclonic circulation lying over the Southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining equatorial Indian Ocean, heavy rainfall is likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, and Mahe on Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department said. The weather system is also likely to cause light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning over a few parts of Kerala and Mahe on Tuesday, and over isolated areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal on Tuesday and Saturday, IMD said.

The department has advised fishermen not to venture into the Gulf of Mannar and the adjoining Comorin area till Wednesday.

Additionally, a western disturbance seen as a cyclonic circulation over Iran and its neighbourhood may cause isolated rainfall or snowfall over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand from Wednesday to Friday, the weather agency said. Under the influence of this disturbance, isolated rainfall is also expected over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and east and west Rajasthan till Thursday.

A fresh western disturbance is likely to affect the western Himalayan Region from Saturday, the weather department said. Under its influence, isolated to scattered rainfall or snowfall is expected over the western Himalayan region from Saturday to Monday.

The weather bureau said that dense to very dense fog is expected to continue during late nights and early mornings over some parts of west Uttar Pradesh and east Uttar Pradesh till Wednesday.

The weather department has predicted cold wave conditions over isolated pockets of Rajasthan on Tuesday.

No significant change in minimum temperatures is likely over northwest India in the next 24 hours, after which they will rise gradually by 2-3 degrees Celsius in the subsequent three days, the department said.

Minimum temperatures in central India and Maharashtra could rise gradually by 2–3 degrees Celsius over the next three days, with no change thereafter. No significant change in minimum temperatures is likely over east India and Gujarat in the next five days, the weather bureau said.  End
