NEW DELHI – The Delhi High Court Monday said the Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi had dragged its feet in tabling various reports of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India in the legislative assembly of the national capital. The comptroller and auditor general's report said the state exchequer incurred a loss of INR 20.26 billion on account of the Delhi government's now retracted excise policy.
"The way you (the Delhi government) dragged your feet raises doubts about your bona fides," Justice Sachin Datta said. "You should have promptly forwarded the reports to the speaker and had a discussion in the House. The timeline is stark. Seeing the way you have been dragging your feet is something unfortunate."
The court was hearing a petition by Vijender Gupta, Bharatiya Janata Party member of the Delhi Legislative Assembly, and six other members seeking a direction to the speaker to summon the House for a special sitting. They also sought a direction to the speaker to table the comptroller and auditor general's reports in the assembly in a time-bound manner.
The court said calling for the session was the speaker's domain and wondered if it could issue a direction to him to do so, particularly when the assembly election is round the corner. The court will continue the hearing Thursday. End
