IMD sees cyclonic circulation causing heavy rain over south India Tue, Wed

MUMBAI – A cyclonic circulation lying over the Comorin area and its neighbourhood is likely to cause heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal Tuesday, and over Kerala and Mahe Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department said. Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is also likely over parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema till Thursday, it said.
The department has advised fishermen not to venture into the waters off the south Sri Lanka coast or into the southeast and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal on Monday, as well as in the Gulf of Mannar and adjoining Comorin area till Thursday.
Meanwhile, a fresh western disturbance is likely to cause isolated to scattered rainfall or snowfall over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand from Wednesday to Sunday, the agency said. Under the influence of this disturbance, isolated rainfall is also expected over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, east and west Rajasthan on Wednesday and Thursday.
Additionally, the weather system may cause hailstorms and thunderstorms over parts of Madhya Pradesh Wednesday, the weather department said. Light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, is also predicted over parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on Monday.
Dense to very dense fog is expected to continue during late nights and early mornings over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh till Wednesday, the weather bureau said. Dense fog is likely to prevail over isolated pockets of Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura till Jan. 20, the agency said.
The weather department has predicted cold wave conditions over isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh till Tuesday. No significant change in minimum temperatures is likely over northwest India in the next two days, after which they will rise gradually by 2-4 degrees Celsius, the department said. No significant change in minimum temperatures is seen over central India and Maharashtra during the next 24 hours, followed by a gradual rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius in the subsequent two or three days.
No significant change in minimum temperatures is expected over east India in the next five days, the weather bureau said. End
