NEW DELHI - The Government is likely to announce the schedule for the Budget Session of Parliament this fortnight after the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs holds its meeting, a government source said on Wednesday.
It is expected that the Budget Session will commence with President Droupadi Murmu's address to the joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament on Jan. 31, followed by the presentation of the Budget for 2025-26 (Apr-Mar) on Feb. 1 by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The Finance Minister is likely to table the Economic Survey for 2023-24 on Jan. 31 when the two Houses assemble after the President's address. The session will conclude in the first or the second week of April, the source said.
Parliament will be adjourned for a recess around the first fortnight of February till early March to enable the department-related Parliamentary Standing Committees to examine the demands for grants and make reports relating to their ministries and departments.
During the first part of the Budget Session, the two Houses will have a detailed discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the President's Address, followed by a discussion on the Union Budget. During the second part of the Budget Session, the major focus will be on the demands for grants for ministries apart from the government's legislative agenda.
The Winter Session of Parliament that ended on Dec. 20 witnessed stormy proceedings amid ruckus and unprecedented showdowns. The session ended without conducting any constructive business except managing to pass on the last day a motion to constitute a Joint Parliamentary Committee to deal with the One Nation, One Election bills.
