Western disturbance to cause rainfall in northwest during Fri-Sun, says IMD

MUMBAI – A fresh western disturbance and its interaction with easterly winds is likely to cause light to moderate rainfall over parts of northwest India from Friday to Sunday, the India Meteorological Department said on Wednesday. Light to moderate rainfall and snowfall are likely over the western Himalayan region during the period, it said. 

 

Thunderstorms are also likely over parts of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand over the weekend, it said, adding that parts of Rajasthan may experience hailstorms on Saturday.

 

Meanwhile, cyclonic circulations lying over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and north Tamil Nadu are likely to bring heavy rainfall over parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Saturday and light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightening over Kerala and other parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Saturday and Sunday.

 

A cyclonic circulation lying over northeast Assam is likely to bring light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorm activity, over parts of the northeastern states on Wednesday. Isolated hailstorms are also likely over northeast Assam on Wednesday, the agency said.

 

Dense to very dense fog conditions are expected to continue during late night and early morning over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh till Friday, the weather bureau said. Dense fog conditions are likely to prevail over isolated pockets of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura till Monday, it said.

 

The weather bureau predicted cold day conditions over parts of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday and Thursday. Minimum temperatures could fall by about 2 degrees Celsius during the next 24 hours in northwest India, after which it will gradually rise by 2-4 degrees Celsius, IMD said. In East India, minimum temperatures could rise by 2-4 degrees Celsius in the next 24 hours, with no significant change during the subsequent two days, and a gradual rise by 2–3 degrees Celsius thereafter.

 

Minimum temperatures could rise by 2-4 degrees Celsius in Maharashtra during the next three days, after which no significant change is seen, the weather department said. 

 

No significant change in minimum temperatures is likely over central India in the next 24 hours and a gradual rise by 3–5 degrees Celsius thereafter. In Gujarat, no significant change in minimum temperatures during the next 24 hours, after which a gradual rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius is likely, IMD said.  End
