India Dec power generation up 4.23% at 120.85 bln kWh

KOLKATA – The electricity generation in India rose 4.23% year on year and 2.59% on month to 120.85 billion kWh in December, data released by the Central Electricity Authority of India showed. In December 2023, total power generation from all the sources stood at 115.95 billion kWh, and in November, it was at 117.80 billion kWh.

 

Total electricity generation includes the power bought from Bhutan.

 

Thermal power generation rose 2.36% year on year to 107.98 billion kWh, and nuclear power generation increased 18.90% to 5.08 billion kWh.

 

Hydropower generation increased by 26.06% to 7.77 billion kWh.

 

For Apr-Dec, total electricity produced was 1.19 trillion kWh, up 4.72% year on year. The country has set an electricity generation target of 1.66 trillion kWh for 2024-25 (Apr-Mar).
