MUMBAI – A fresh western disturbance and its interaction with easterly winds is likely to cause light showers over parts of northwest India and light to moderate rainfall or snowfall over the western Himalayan region during Friday and Sunday, the India Meteorological Department said.

The weather bureau also said an induced cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Rajasthan and the neighbourhood in lower tropospheric levels. This is likely to lead to light to moderate rains along with thunderstorm at isolated places over northeastern states on Tuesday and Wednesday. The weather system will also lead to rainfall and hailstorm activity over parts of Uttarakhand and northwest Uttar Pradesh on Monday.

Parts of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam are likely to see hailstorm on Tuesday, the IMD said. Rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm and hailstorm activity is very likely over Sikkim on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, cold to severe cold day conditions are very likely in parts of Uttar Pradesh till Wednesday. Cold day conditions are very likely over parts of Rajasthan on Monday and Tuesday, the IMD said.

The weather bureau also issued a dense fog warning over the Indo-Gangetic plains for the next 3-4 days. It said very dense fog conditions are likely to continue during the night and early morning hours in parts of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Bihar during the week.

A fall in minimum temperatures by 3-5 degrees Celsius is likely over western Himalayan regions during the next three days and a gradual rise by 2-4 degrees Celsius is expected thereafter. Minimum temperatures are likely to remain unchanged over central India during the next 24 hours and thereafter fall by 2-4 degrees Celsius.

The IMD said minimum temperatures in northeast India during the next 1-2 days are likely to rise by 3-4 degrees Celsius and then fall by 2-3 degrees Celsius during the subsequent two days.  End
