MUMBAI – The government on Thursday said it has incorporated 151 standards formulated by the Bureau of India Standards in its Quality Control Order to ensure quality in Indian steel. "So far 151 such steel standards formulated by BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) have been incorporated in the QCO (Quality Control Order) and this exercise is continuing towards the goal of formulating standards for all the steel consumed in the country," the steel ministry said in a release.

The government is also subjecting the import of steel consignments to scrutiny to check the supply of any substandard steel consignment, the ministry said. Quality control ensures consistency in the quality of steel across different manufacturers, it said.

The government has set up a working group to formulate India's Steel Global Outlook Strategy. The strategy focuses on four areas – raw materials, investments, technology, and exports. After consultation with the stakeholders, the government will formulate a strategy paper, identifying focused areas of cooperation and action plan for priority countries, the release said.  End
