NEW DELHI – The statistics ministry will launch as many as five surveys this month, ranging from those related to health as well as employment. Further, it will also issue quarterly estimates for its Annual Survey on Unincorporated Enterprise, or ASUSE, which will also begin in January, the ministry said Thursday.
"The sample design of these surveys has been modified incorporating the provision for generation of district-level estimates, monthly estimates of key labour force indicators at all-India level from PLFS (Periodic Labour Force Survey), quarterly estimates for PLFS in rural areas, and generation of quarterly estimates for ASUSE along with Annual estimates," the ministry said in a statement.
As per the latest unincorporated enterprises survey for 2023-24 (Oct-Sept), released on Dec. 24, these enterprises employed 120.60 million workers, up 10.0% from a year ago.
In addition to the Annual Survey on Unincorporated Enterprise and the Periodic Labour Force Survey, both for 2025, the statistics ministry will also conduct its Survey on Social Consumption-Health for 2025, Comprehensive Modular Survey-Telecom and ICT (information and communications technology) skill for Jan-Mar and for education for Apr-Jun as part of the 80th round of National Sample Survey.
"As an enabling provision for generating the district-level estimates, NSO (National Statistics Office) has modified the sample design for the selection of samples with the district as a basic stratum for all the surveys starting from January 2025," the ministry said, adding that it will serve as the nodal agency responsible for generating state and national-level estimates, while the respective state governments will produce district-level estimates.
