TVS Motor's Dec 2-wheeler sales growth lowest since Jun, EV sales up 79% YoY

MUMBAI – TVS Motor Co. Ltd.'s two-wheeler despatches in December grew in high-single digit on an annual basis, but the growth rate was the slowest since June, as per an exchange disclosure by the company on Thursday. Despatches of the company's electric two-wheelers increased 79% on year to 20,171 units in December. This was on account of a low base, and was also the lowest number of electric variants sold in a month since June. During the month, its domestic motorcycle sales contracted for the first time since August 2023.
The Chennai-based company sold 312,002 units in the wholesale market in December, up 8% on year. In India, the company sold 215,075 of these two-wheelers, unchanged compared to the same month a year ago. However, exports of two-wheelers grew 29% on year in December to 96,927 units. TVS Motor despatched 144,811 motorcycles in December, 2% lower on year.
TVS Motor sold 133,919 scooters in December to dealers, 30% higher than the 103,167 units sold a year ago. Three-wheeler sales by the company in December contracted 18.2% on year to 9,685 units. In international markets, the company exported 104,393 of its products, up 22% on year.
In Oct-Dec, TVS Motor's two-wheeler despatches, including electric two-wheelers, increased 11% on year to 1.2 million units, while three-wheeler sales contracted to 29,000 units from 38,000 units a year ago. TVS Motor sold 76,000 electric two-wheelers in December, up 58% on year.
For Jul-Sept, TVS Motor reported a net profit of INR 6.63 billion on revenue of INR 92.28 billion. At 1359 IST, shares of the company were up 2.5% on the National Stock Exchange at INR 2,468.20. End
