India gets 120% above normal rain at 8.1 mm in week ended Wed, says IMD

NEW DELHI – India received an average rainfall of 8.1 millimetres in the week ended Wednesday, 120% above the normal of 3.7 mm for the period, the India Meteorological Department said. Barring east and northeast India, the rest of the country received above-normal rainfall during the week, the weather bureau said.

 

Rainfall in east and northeast India was down 91% during the week at 0.3 mm. Central India received a whopping 496% above normal rainfall during the period at 7.2 mm, with Odisha receiving 1,221% above normal rainfall at 10.6 mm, the data showed.


South peninsular India recorded 6.5 mm of rain, 63% higher than the normal rainfall for the period. Northwest India received 114% above normal rainfall at 14.3 mm during the week, according to the data.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was 'large excess' in 16 and 'excess' in none. Five subdivisions received normal rainfall during the week. Four subdivisions received 'deficient' rain, eight had 'largely deficient' rain, and three subdivisions received no rainfall during the week. 

 

Since Oct. 1, India has received 117.4 mm rainfall, 3% below the normal of 121.0 mm for the period.  End
