Heavy rains, snowfall very likely over Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, says IMD

MUMBAI – Heavy rainfall and snowfall are very likely over parts of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, the India Meteorological Department said on Wednesday. The weather bureau has also predicted light to scattered rainfall and snowfall over the western Himalayan region till Friday, mainly due to the influence of a western disturbance over east Afghanistan, the IMD said. A fresh western disturbance is lying over Iraq, it said.
The IMD said heavy rainfall along with lightning is very likely over parts of south Tamil Nadu on Wednesday under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over the equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal.
Dense fog conditions are likely to prevail during late night and early morning hours in pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura during the week. Ground frost conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura till Friday, it said.
The weather bureau also issued a warning for cold to severe cold day conditions over some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday. Cold day conditions are also very likely over pockets of Madhya Pradesh till Thursday, it said. End
